PROFILE
Riverhurst
is located on Highway 42 - just 3 km from the beautiful Lake
Diefenbaker. It is 120 km north-west of Moose Jaw and 120 km
north-east of Swift Current.
Services in the village include water and sewer, weekly garbage
pickup, snow removal and street grading, and a volunteer
fire department. There is also
natural gas in the village. Riverhurst gets its water from Lake Diefenbaker.
We have a state of the art, computerized water treatment plant that was upgraded
in 2003. We have two Class 2 certified operators maintaining our plant. Both
are very conscientious people. As a result we have excellent drinking water
that is also suitable for lawns and gardens.
Riverhurst
is 20 minutes away from a hospital, doctors clinic, dental clinic,
ambulance and school. We have First Responders in the village
and in the R.M. of Maple Bush. A wellness clinic is held in the
Village Square once a month with a registered nurse in attendance.
We
are an active community with a Community Hall, Arena, and
Sports Grounds. The Plus 50 is an active seniors club holding
potluck suppers in the fall and winter and a barbeque in the
summer. The Riverhurst Ladies Tabletop Curling Club has weekly
table top curling in the winter months and an open bonspiel at
the end of the season.
During the summer there is lots to do in the area. Swimming,
camping or golfing at Palliser Regional Park just 10 minutes
away. Take a boat tour of the lake
with Sask River Tours. A short boat ride to the north will bring you to Bird
Island where hundreds of cormorants, and seagulls may be found. Pelicans
and geese can also be seen on the lake. Take a longer boat
ride and you will come
to the fish farm on the west side of the lake. Or take a ride across the
lake on the Riverhurst Ferry. The ferry offers free 24
hour service, leaving the
east side on the hour and the west side on the half hour.
Fishing
is also a popular sport, both summer and winter. You will find
perch, northern pike, walleye, trout and goldeye
in Lake Diefenbaker. Every Father’s
day weekend in June the Riverhurst Rec Board holds a fish derby - The Walleye
Classic. Go to the link for more information about this derby.
Take a drive in the country and you are sure to come across
a hawk, ducks, Canada geese, Snow Geese, a snowy owl, deer,
antelope or a large herd of
elk. There is lots of wildlife for those who like to photograph wild
animals and
birds.
If you are looking for a place to retire, or for a summer home,
and enjoy swimming, boating, water skiing, fishing, golfing,
hunting, duck or goose
hunting, or
just walking in the country in a safe environment, Riverhurst is the
place to be.
